Hot tub heaters are obviously an essential part of any hot
tub. When a heater goes out or does not function properly, the
party is over. Some spas are heated by gas, but the overwhelming
majority run on electricity. So, when something goes wrong it
is vital to use extreme caution. The best idea is to consult a
professional.
When hot tub heaters are functioning properly, electricity runs
through a series of switches and relays to the heating element.
The element gets hot then transfers heat to the water. In order
to properly test the heating system, an amp meter and volt/ohm
meter are needed. Those who don’t have access to these devices,
or don’t know how to use them, should not attempt electrical
repairs of any kind.
If a hot tub isn’t heating at all, the first thing to check
is the pump. Hot tub heaters will not work if there is an insufficient
amount of water moving through the system. If the pump is operational,
move on to a few electrical tests. If you don’t know what
you’re doing, forget it! Call an electrician or spa technician!
